Brighter Now by Crushed Stars

On March 6, 2012 Simulacra Records will release In The Bright Rain the latest from Crushed Stars. The record was recorded with Stuart Sikes (White StripesModest Mouse, Cat Power) and once again, the majority of the album’s instrumentation was handled by Todd Gautreau. Guests include drummer Jeff Ryan (St. VincentWar on Drugs) Howard Draper (formerly of Okkervil River/Shearwater) and Buffi Jacobs (The Polyphonic Spree).

After a break to focus on Gautreau’s electronic project Sonogram, Crushed Stars released Gossamer Days in 2008 and in 2010, Gautreau teamed up withJohn Congleton (Clinic,The Walkmen) for its follow up Convalescing In Braille. Crushed Stars beautiful form of quiet indie pop features hints of Red House PaintersThe Clientele,Lambchop andLow with previous efforts have receiving glowing reviews from prominent print and online outlets. Under The Radar said, “Gautreau’s voice sounds has a drunken slur to it which contrasts nicely with the pristine instrumentation: guitars chime with infinity, cymbals crash with luscious echoes and keys puncture the melodies beautifully; a finely constructed album” while eMusic said, “[Gautreau] Takes the best ofNick Drake and Ryan Adams and splits the difference right down the middle.”

About the new album Crushed Stars frontman Todd Gautreau says, “In the Bright Rain  is an attempt to make a more optimistic record, I wanted to remove some of my own personal baggage from the equation and see if could construct more universal pop songs, though I am not sure if I pulled that off, hence the juxtaposition suggested by the title.”

In The Bright Rain features eight original tracks and also includes a cover of British luminary Epic Soundtracks “House on the Hill.” Epic was working on the song at the time of his death and never had a chance to properly record the track.
